Student wellbeing at HITS is addressed through physical facilities, structured life-skills programming, and access to senior medical and counselling expertise brought onto campus.
The campus provides a fully equipped gymnasium, athletic sports facilities and open grounds, along with regular yoga and meditation sessions. Meals for hostel residents are prepared in a fully automated kitchen, adopted specifically to hold hygiene and nutritional quality to a consistent standard.
The institute’s life-skills programme addresses the capabilities that carry students through difficulty as much as through success — communication, time management, critical thinking, leadership, active listening, and dealing with failure. Sessions have included Vipassana meditation practice with Mr. Bhaskara Rao on quieting the mind and reducing anxiety about the past and future, and a session with Dr. Rajitha Mynampally, life coach, on self-independence, confidence and self-identity, including the pressures and anti-social influences facing young people today.
Senior medical practitioners have addressed students directly, among them Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli, robotic oncology surgeon and clinical director, and Dr. Ashish Chauhan, senior consultant and diabetologist. The institute has also run sessions on gender sensitisation with Mr. GHP Raju, IPS (Retd.), covering discrimination, the legal framework around harassment, and building a respectful campus environment.
