Student activity at HITS clusters around building things — robotics and drones, startups, and competitive engineering events — supported by the institute’s applied facilities and its industry network.
Students work on robotics and drone projects through the Medha Robotics Centre and the Marut Drones R&D Centre, and compete nationally in Battle Bots and radio car racing events. The campus drone assembling, repair and service centre gives students hands-on hardware experience, and 24 students earned DGCA Remote Pilot Certificates in AY 2025–26 through the on-campus training organisation.
The EDC, launched in April 2025, is among the most active student bodies on campus — 27 startups emerged from it in AY 2025–26. It runs ideation and startup-lifecycle workshops with mentors from T-Works, NSIC, IIIT’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Hyderabad startup ecosystem, covering business model design, market validation, prototyping, funding, IPR and growth strategy.
Around 30 sessions and hands-on workshops run across the academic year — roughly two to three every month — spanning technical training, industry interaction, life skills and wellbeing. Students also take part in the institute’s cultural and celebratory events, including orientation and convocation programmes held in the campus auditorium.
